Place the plain flour, bicarbonate of soda, baking powder, rye flour, sugar and salt in a bowl and mix to combine. Add the buttermilk and mix with a butter knife until a soft dough forms. Turn out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 2 minutes or until smooth. Press the mixture in the base of a lightly greased 22cm heavy-based frying pan. Cover with lightly greased aluminium foil. Cook over low heat for 30 minutes, turn the bread, cover, and cook for a further 20 minutes or until golden and cooked through.+ Serve with butter. Serves 4.
+ To test if the bread is cooked, tap it and if it sounds hollow it is ready.
